With winter just around the corner my mind goes back to days long ago when I hoped that school would be cancelled. It did not happen often but it was nice when it did. There was anticipation, listening to the weather report on the radio while making plans for what to do the next day with no school. When school was not cancelled and all my hopes and plans could not be accomplished. In Ruth chapter 1, Naomi and her family sought a better life in the neighboring country of Moab during a famine. In the years that followed, Naomi saw her husband and two sons pass away. Bitterness took over her pleasant personality and she placed the blame of her situation squarely on God (Ruth 1:20-21). Like Naomi we make plans for our lives. We plan of places to go and live that will bring security. We plan of being in positions that that will bring peace. These hopes and dreams motivate us to live life. But, what do we do when the plans do not work and the hopes are shattered? We need to place our hope in God and not the place we live, the position we have or the people surrounding us. Remember that God is still at work bringing about His plans and redeeming our life situation for His honor. Naomi returned home and began to see God work out other plans even though they were nowhere near the ones she had hoped for.
