Look around you right now. More than likely your cell phone is within reach. We use these convenient devices for all kinds of things, gathering information, storing information, collecting addresses and finding maps on how to get some place. I think the cell phone is an accurate picture of or lives. It is easy and convenient so we turn to this source for our information, guidance and help in decisions.
Want proof? We use phones to find reviews of products, stores and services and make decisions on which one to use. We use phones to give us maps and directions on how to get from one place to another. Even the electronic maps that we use often give several choices and we must choose to faithfully follow one of them. We allow the phone to direct us.
But what if we turn away from the map and directions on the phone? We all have done that. We feel lost. We look for things and places that we may know or recognize. For most of us we eventually stop and consult our phone and the maps for the directions that we need.
What if our spiritual life was like that? What if we had a faithful source that we always followed at all times in our life? There is one superior source that is presented in Psalm 119:105. This verse declares that this faithful source of direction is direct from God. It is His word for us. God's word will personally protect us by giving direction for the next step, clarity for each step and protection from taking the wrong step. God's word is the guide that helps us strategically walk in persistence in God's direction.
So what does that do for us today? Quite a while ago I was in a class where we were told to find some item that the teacher had hidden. Class was dismissed for a scavenger hunt outside. We looked all over and tried to think like the teacher to discover what the teacher had hidden. In the end we learned that all we had to do was ask the teacher and he would have given us directions to the hidden treasure. However, the whole class spent their time searching for the answer on their own rather than going to the source to discover his answer.
God provides the answers and directions to life in His word. Like the phone and the teacher we need to continually consult the Bible, the source that has the answers. When we disregard God's word we do so at our own peril and stumble for lack of clarity and direction. May God give us a greater passion and value for His word.
