Have you ever studied a rabbit? These animals have a flight mentality. They are low on the food chain and many other animals want them on their dinner plate. The problem is that they are very fast and can change directions quickly. On top of that God has allowed the rabbit to blend with its surroundings.
I have seen rabbits out run a hawk and fox. I have also seen times when they were not as successful. Perhaps you might want to consider the time when the cat brought a baby rabbit to the back door. Rabbits, especially young ones, do not handle stress well. Any change in their environment leads to a very high amount of stress. Rabbits, especially the wild ones, are easily stressed and can drop dead from fear. The cat may not kill the baby but the stress can and most often does kill an otherwise healthy baby.
As we walk into the fall months we notice the change of colors and the day light hours that are shortening. Along with the darkness comes Halloween. Often this event is noted for the chance to scare friends and family. For some it is fun. For others it is completely frightful and people have the choice of how they respond… fight or flight. Try scaring someone and watch for the reaction, it will be one or the other.
So why do we respond in fear to certain events in our lives? Could it be that we in a way like the rabbit have set our boundaries of security? Anything outside the nest and the sense of normal that we plan and control causes the response of fear that produces a fight or a flight instinct.
