Tools for Others: Items that will guide one to value others

Mentoring and Hard Times

Lessons from Hebrews 11
Mentoring is an Art Discovered in Hard Times

        1. Difficulty allows one to speak to difficulty
Everyone is either in a trial, coming out of a trial or going into a trial
You have learned life lessons that may help others

        2. Difficulty allows one to speak to success
Success and growth are never without personal sacrifice
Note the sacrifice listed in Hebrews 11:35-38

        3. Difficulty allows one to speak to reality
We live in a fallen world corrupted by sin
Life is hard because of fallen condition
We as believers have the hope of heaven
            Point others to something better

        4. Difficulty allows one to speak to perseverance
Perseverance believes that God can redeem this trial
Perseverance acts on the trustworthiness of God

        5. Difficulty allows one to speak to faith
Trust in God is displayed regardless of trial
Hebrews 11:6 without faith it is impossible to please God

        6. Difficulty allows one to speak to history
The trials of life form history
Wise people study and learn from history
Let your life speak long after you are gone
Hebrews 11:4 though he is dead, he still speaks
