Theme:
This book shows the continued transition of national leadership in Israel from Samuel to Saul and now to David. Here the kingdom is built under David after Saul had united the tribes into a nation.
Purpose:
Through this book we see that God does not play favorites even with His appointed rulers.
God requires obedience (1-7) to gain His blessing (8-10).
However, disobedience to God (11) will bring God's judgment (12-24).
